After the World Cup kick-off in Prague (16-18 June) and the second World Cup in Augsburg (23.-25.06.), the worlds canoeing elite meets in the Kanupark Markkleeberg. From 30th of June till 2nd of July in 2017, 250 athletes from 32 nations, among them current Olympians, World Cup and European Champions, want to collect important points for the overall World Cup.
For the first time, two World Cups were handed out directly to Germany. The president of the German Canoe Association Thomas Konietzko, finds this “great” and sees it as a “great appreciation of the canoe world association”.
The town of Markkleeberg is also looking forward to another spectacular event in the Kanupark Markkleeberg. Mayor Karsten Schütze: “We remembered the European Championships two years ago. It is inspiring to watch the athletes. I’m optimistic that several thousand spectators are coming. Nevertheless, the sport generally deserved much more spectators.”
The head of the organization team Christoph Kirsten, asserts: “The preparation is going well. Our hard core of ten, twelve people gets support from over 120 volunteers over the weekend. We are grateful that the public sector as well as loyal sponsors are helping to raise the 200,000 euro event.”
